Obverse: the Amerigo Vespucci training ship, the rough sea, and the clouds in the background suggest a strong wind. The crew is ready for a new voyage to the United States of America to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
Reverse: the geographical map blends with the text of the Declaration of Independence. Europe and America are framed by nautical ropes, forming an interwoven design symbolizing union.
On the border, the anniversary dates are arranged like the points on a compass, as if indicating the direction.
Sculptor: Francesca Costantini.

ABOUT THE MEDAL'S DESIGNER
ABOUT THE MEDAL'S DESIGNER
Loredana Pancotto was born in Rome and here, at the Liceo Artistico S. Orsola, she began her artistic training with Professor Maria Luisa Iannetti. The love for art and drawing transmitted in these first years of study led her to continue her education at the Pantheon Institute of Culture, also in Rome, where later she taught for about ten years, and then to the School of Art of the Medal of the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato. Among her teachers she loves to remember, Laura Cretara in the modeled, Franco Pioli for the engraving, Aurelio Morte for the chisel, the overhang and wax, Di Giovine for the technology and she had the canche to see at work Sergio Giandomenico - engraver at the Mint - from which, only with the observation, she has learned balance in modeling and technique. She graduated in 1983. Already during the course at the School she participated, with one of her creations, in the First Biennale of the Art Medal, qualifying second.
For the Republic of San Marino she made coins such as the 1994 divisional, the 1995 gold 1, 2 and 5 scudi, the 1997 silver 10,000 lire, the 1998 silver 5,000 and 10,000 lire. Among the numerous medals performed, many of which are now on display in public and private museums in Italy and abroad, we must mention those commissioned by the Vatican City on the occasion of the Apostolic Journeys of Pope John Paul II.
